Charlie

Charlie is a 3yr old rottie who came home into foster care with us two days ago, and we've been amazed at just how wonderful he is. We hadn't expected a 'pound dog' to immediately get on with our other dogs, respect their status in our 'pack', be fully housetrained, sleep all night in a crate without a murmur, listen to what he's told, be fine with the vaccuum cleaner, and generally behave better than our own 4 dogs. But that's exactly what he's done. He waits for his food, is fine with having his paws wiped clean, and travels well in the car. At the moment he is very strong on the lead, but we are working on this, and as he's so receptive to what is asked of him, I think he will understand quite soon. Sadly, Charlie has hip dysplasia - a life-long condition which affects his mobility, and for which he will need supplements and pain killers when his arthritis gets bad. As his hip dysplasia is an existing condition, it is very unlikely to be covered by pet insurance. He is currently underweight, and lacks muscle in his back legs, but this will build up with gentle exercise and good food. Hydrotherapy is also something that would help to strengthen the muscles around his joints. It would be such a shame if Charlie were overlooked because of his hip dysplasia - this is one dream of a dog, who is kind, gentle, and affectionate. He is great with other dogs and enjoys their company, although occasionally gets a little bit excited, but this is due to his young age. He really does listen to what you ask of him, and calms down very quickly. He has walked past cats without much interest, but as yet he hasn't encountered any children whilst being with us, so we don't know what he's like. However, there is nothing to indicate that he wouldn't be ok with older children. He is still puppy-like in some ways - doesn't always know what his big feet or back end are doing - and young children could get easily knocked over.. Please consider adopting him - we've already fallen totally in love with this dog, and we don't want to become a failed fosterers on our very first attempt! He really does deserve the very best of homes after the rotten start he's had. This is one FANTASTIC boy, and whoever gives this beautiful dog his forever home will be richly rewarded with his love, kindness, and willingness to please.
